'ALL THINGS NATURAL'
cypress and acrylic paint -2 x 1 metres
Cypress pine and enamal paint.
This sculpture was made using cypress from the finders golf course, i was driving around the golf course giving the dog a run behind the car (she loved this), when i saw these huge trees being chopped down, i spoke to the workers and they agreed to drop some off at my studio which was in main ridge at the time. They dropped two huge semi trailers of wood at the back door, i got the shock of my life when i got home, so did the land lord.
This piece was inspired by a friend who suddenly discovered he was going to be a father (by accident) the two got together and worked through stuff and made their relationship work.
The woman is really strong and the man small and weak, they really don't seem connected. An interesting note is that 15 years after this piece was made i end up teaching this child art at high school, her parents went onto having another child shortly after her, but now her father is very ill and frail and the mother is caring for the family.

FRULING
Cypress- sold
This piece was a very delicate piece, it was made in 5 parts then carefully joined together. I was aiming to create a fairy, as fine a piece as i could with a chainsaw. The title fruling means spring in german, it was bought by a couple and sits in the front entrance way.

Cypress and white enamal paint
this piece is still one of my favorite sculptures. It was purchased from the contempory art fair in melbourne in........ I had exhibited it in quite a few places prior to this and had always got good responces. It is quite a large piece and needs to be placed in an open space. I gave it a white wash to capture purity. It was placed in a gallery window in st kilda melbourne for 3 weeks one summer and when i came to pick it up the curator told me that each day an older well dressed gentleman would come and look at the piece for quite some time, after watching this over a week or so she went out and invited him in to the gallery, she found him to be crying.
" why are you crying?" she said
"this work reminds me of my wife and the love we shared" he said
"come in and have a cup of tea, you are welcome to stay as long as you like" she said
"thanks, its good to know artists can express what we feel" he said
this has been one of the high lights of my career.

FISH TROPHY
cypress
This piece was a ripper, i really enjoyed making this, it stood about 11/4 metres high from memory and had a green finish to the fish section. This piece was held by a gallery in melbourne, as i would not pay the fee.... I was invited to exhibt, i asked if there was a fee attached, oh no said the fellow there is no fee, we just love your work etc etc, it was a fund raising exhibition for the conservation society, with all proceeds going to the conservation society, well it turned out to be a disaster, Peter Garret opened the show told me his 4 year old son could create work better than mine, 'thats great, id love to see it! " i said then they with held my favourite piece, they did sell a few, but hey thems the breaks.

SNAPPER
Cypress
I made this piece just before i got pregnant with my first child. I called it snapper after a movie I HAD JUST SEEN. I cryed all the way through. I was at the time selling sculpturs through Anita Traversio and this one was sent over to london, it was very strange seeing photos of your work in a country that you haven't been to. Well it never returned, it was broken in transit' thats how it rolls but hey it had a great time.

This sculpture stands about 8 foot high, its made using cypress and brass rod. This piece sold very quickly and now resides somewhere in new york, i think. I really like to know where things are that i make, silly really! I think thats why it takes me so long to make a body of work, maybe i have an issue with letting things go?

RED DOG - sold
I made this piece in 1992 and exhibited it at roar galleries in fitzroy with a group of other artists. It was a strong show we had two painters and two sculptors. Most of the work i created was very whimsical and comical, this piece was inspired by all the dogs that would frequent our share house at the time, everyone had a dog, sometimes there was more dogs than people, the dogs would play, they were always happy since then i have always wondered what it would be like to be a dog, carefree, loyal and happy. Awomen bought this, she would send me $20 in the mail until she had paid it off

JOYCEY-sold
I love this sculpture. This is inspired by my beautiful grandmother joyce. I loved her she was old and soft. I loved the way the skin on her arms would droop, it told me stories of work and hard times. I loved the way she was stooped in her later years yet she still wore her favorite jewellery.
I carved this piece out of cypress, and the wood lent itself to having two distinct colors. I used this to represent the inner strength and outer beauty of my grandmother.
A wonderful women called kay bought this piece. She was dying of cancer at the time, and wanted to gaze at her while she lay in bed. She knew joyce and she drew strength from the piece. Kay has since died.

WEDNESDAY
This piece is a favourite of mine, i feel it is one of my strongest pieces, i have this siting outside my studio. I called it wednesday, because this is the middle of the week, similar to the middle of life or a crisis when we need each other the most, not the start when its all new and not the end when all is complete but the middle when things are hard, we need extra support and guidance to find our way home.
