Welcome, and I hope you enjoy my work. I've been making art pretty much all my life, its my way of communicating things. I find that I get lost in the process of creation, time and life get totally combined and everything becomes one joyous existence. When I create I don't set out with any particular idea or intent, I just start making. I absolutely love the process of carving timber. Big lumps of fallen tree. I love the sound of the tools, getting lost in the noise, dust and smells of the timber. When the cuts start to form a shape, and the shape starts to tell a story, and I am part of a beautiful creative experience.
Not being limited to any medium, I am someone who loves to learn new things, techniques and skills. Different materials allow or determine different shapes and then stories to evolve. The process of learning new things is exciting and invigorating. Passing on skills, techniques and processes is also a huge part of my creative process. I have been working with children, youth and adults now teaching art and in the helping profession now since the 80s. The making and the teaching for me are one process, one feeding the other.
Jean Sheridan lives and breathes creativity, whether it be her own creating, helping others create or the teaching creativity.
